Recently I played my first game of blackjack. Now, I am not really into gambling, but I really enjoy playing card games. Friday, a bunch of my friends from English II and I were all messing around at the end of class, so we decided to play a couple games of blackjack. Now, I haven't really played blackjack before, so i kind of had to figure out the rules as I went along. Some of the other players tried to help me and walk me through a round. As I listened to them describe how to play, I was shocked when my English teacher joined in! He started describing the rules of the game and how to play, which surprised me because I didn't even know he played!
I gradually fleshed out some basic rules: The hand closest to twenty-one without going over wins; the face cards, which are the king, queen, and the jack, all have a value of ten, with the aces being either one or eleven. To me this is a bit more complicated than poker, which I can usually do pretty well at.
After a brief explanation from the group, I gradually improved and I was able to play a bit better. It just goes to show that people are full of surprises.
